The Gift of Christmas for Tohoku Japan

We pull up alongside the churches and Christian organizations there to bring the true meaning of Christmas to the people of Tohoku Japan; we provide the carols, they provide the Word.

Date: 14/15 - 23 December 2012

  • Departure 14th late night or 15th Dec early morning
  • Return: 23rd Dec
  • Leave application: required for week of 17th Dec only

Application closing date: 26th October 2012

Places of ministry:

  • Karuizawa 15-16 Dec, with TEAM
  • Iwate 17-22 Dec, with 3.11 Iwate and OMF Kamaishi-Ohtsuchi

Size of group:

  • Team to be max 12 (subject to lodging, if the application numbers are high, may consider up to 14)
  • Split up into groups of 5-6 members for on-site ministry
  • Nevertheless, we will still lodge together as one team

Requirements:

  • MUST be able to read notes or keep pitch; play instrument is a plus
  • MUST participate in all rehearsals (4x)
  • No audition
  • You do NOT have to be Japanese language literate for this trip. Come and join us to share the joy of Christmas with the survivors of the Great East Japan Disaster. Please also pray along with us, that the survivors will receive the message of Christmas and make it their own.

Considerations:

  • Can take cold, dry weather
  • Can take sleeping in sleeping-bags, if required
  • Can take moving around frequently

Cost burden:

Airfare, domestic transport, lodging and food will be borne by you
 

Rehearsals:

  • 10, 17, 24 Nov and 1 Dec / 2-5:00 pm
  • Well-known traditional Christmas carols, hymns and songs; no new or contemporary material
  • Romanized Japanese versions for sing-a-long with survivors
  • If sufficient musicians, may do instrumental piece
  • 3.11 worker who is also a harpist is considering partnering us, so we would need to work this out
